Commemorating 25 Years of the UNCITRAL Model Law on Cross-Border Insolvency

Tuesday, 24th May 2022 1:00 pm (GMT +1)

Programme

30 May 2022 marks the 25th anniversary of the enactment of the Model Law on Cross-Border Insolvency (MLCBI) by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL).

Since the enactment of the MLCBI by the Commission in 1997, a total of 50 States in 54 jurisdictions have adopted it by incorporating it into their domestic legislation. INSOL International worked closely with UNCITRAL in the development and eventual enactment of the text by the Commission in 1997.

Join our panel of experts* who will reflect on the history, development and enactment of the MLCBI by the Commission, and its promotion and take up globally.  Speakers will consider the value of the MLCBI and its supporting texts in elevating the need for insolvency law reform globally.  We will consider the importance of the MLCBI from the practitioner’s perspective and the role that the MLCBI played in fostering judicial cooperation, court to court communication and the growing cross border dialogue in the judiciary. Finally, the panel will consider the consequences of the raised profile of Working Group V, including the Legislative Guide, two new Model Laws relating to insolvency, the Case Digest dealing with the MLCBI and updated supporting texts.
