Embedding Sustainability in Our Conferences

As a global organisation, INSOL International brings together professionals from across jurisdictions and disciplines — and with that reach comes responsibility. Every conference we host is an opportunity not only to share knowledge and strengthen networks, but also to consider our impact on the world around us.

A structured approach to sustainable event planning

Sustainability is now an integral part of how INSOL plans and delivers its global conferences. We are embedding environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations across the full event lifecycle - from early venue selection to post-event evaluation.
Key focus areas include:

  • Venue selection: Partnering with venues that demonstrate clear sustainability policies, efficient energy use, and robust waste management.
  • Resource management: Reducing reliance on printed materials through digital communications and event apps; using reusable or recyclable materials wherever possible.
  • Catering and materials: Encouraging the use of locally sourced, seasonal produce and minimising single-use plastics and food waste.
  • Travel awareness: While we cannot manage or offset member travel, INSOL is reviewing its own staff travel practices and seeking to minimise non-essential journeys through improved planning and digital engagement. We also provide delegates with information on sustainable transport and accommodation choices wherever possible.

This structured approach allows us to make measurable improvements with each event, informed by experience and feedback from our members and partners.

Collaboration across our supply chain

Delivering a sustainable event depends on collaboration across a broad network of suppliers, venues, and contractors. INSOL International engages proactively with its partners to understand their sustainability commitments and encourage continued progress.

We value partnerships based on transparency and shared goals. By working together, we can identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and embed responsible practices across the event supply chain.

Transparency and continuous improvement

Sustainability is an evolving process, not a fixed target. INSOL International is committed to learning from each conference, identifying where we can do better, and reporting on the progress we make.

Recent steps include:

  • Selecting venues with recognised environmental accreditations.
  • Increasing use of digital delegate materials.
  • Working with local suppliers to reduce transport-related impacts.
  • Reviewing and reducing event waste and printed collateral.

These actions form part of a broader commitment to responsible governance within INSOL’s operations.

A collective responsibility

Sustainability is, at its heart, a shared effort. INSOL International’s global community brings together experts in law, finance, and business — all sectors that understand the value of resilience, long-term thinking, and ethical leadership.

By applying those same principles to the way we plan our events, we aim to ensure that INSOL conferences not only deliver professional excellence but also reflect the organisation’s wider commitment to responsible and sustainable practice.

INSOL International will continue to build on this foundation — collaborating with partners, listening to our members, and ensuring that every conference leaves a positive and lasting impact.
